Families First welcomes new pediatric provider

PORTSMOUTH Charae Spuler, PNP-BC, a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner, has joined the primary care team at Families First Health and Support Center.

A graduate of Gordon College and the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Ms. Spuler has worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner for more than 10 years, first at Childrens Hospital in Philadelphia and then at private pediatric practices in the Boston area. She is also a part-time faculty member at the MGH Institute for Health Professions.

She is now the lead provider in Families Firsts Well Child Program a series of routine checkups, examinations and immunizations for children and teens, including child-development screenings and access to dental care as well as providing sick care. She is also certified to provide gynecological care for young women up to age 21.

Her philosophy of practice is based on T. Berry Brazeltons Touchpoints Theory, which aims to reduce stress in the family system by helping parents anticipate predictably challenging phases of early-childhood development while focusing on their own strengths and the strengths of their children. Her clinical interests also include helping children identify ways to maintain a healthy weight and stay fit.

In addition to Ms. Spuler, the primary-care team at Families First Health Center includes physician Rob Slocum and nurse practitioners Kerry Hasselbrack, Lynne Henning and Margot Kingston. All are accepting new patients.

Families First, the Seacoasts community health center, provides affordable primary, prenatal and oral health care; free parenting classes and family programs; one-on-one support for families facing particular challenges; and mobile health care for people who are homeless.
